Bolshevik Motivation and
German Efficiency:The new officers and skills in "Rush for the Bomb"

Deep Silver has released more details about the skills of the new officers in "Rush for the Bomb," the add-on to the real time strategy game "Rush for Berlin," which has won numerous awards The extensive skills system, which offers players more tactical options than in other strategy games, was already introduced in the main game.

The "Rush for the Bomb" add-on has commissioned three new officers. The officers are the Mobile Infantry Officer for the Allied forces, the Feldkommandant for Germany, and the Military Intelligence Officer for the Soviet Union.

Each officer has three new skills that he can use on the battlefields of "Rush for the Bomb." Here are just some of them:

Triangulation: When the Allied troops' Mobile Infantry Officer uses this skill, all of the friendly artillery units on the map will automatically hit their enemy targets.
If the medic is too far away, the officer's "Mobile Medics" skill will be activated and help all friendly repair trucks on the map heal infantry units.

If the Soviet Military Intelligence Officer uses his "Bolshevik Motivation," then the player's unit cap for his troops will increase.
On the other hand, "Motor Pool Boost" temporarily increases the level of friendly units within the officer's sight range.

Thanks to "German Efficiency," all of the factories within sight range of the Feldkommandant will work at full capacity, even if they have been damaged.
By selectively using "Abwehr Intel," all of the locations of enemy officers will be displayed on the map for a short period of time.

Combined with the already existing officers and skills, this offers players lots of possible tactical operations for an intensive strategy game experience in both single player and multi-player mode.

"Rush for the Bomb" will be released on April 27, 2007.

Danger from across the Atlantic:
the special units in "Rush for the Bomb"

In addition to the well-known vehicles in the main game, "Rush for the Bomb" also offers more special units that play a decisive role in the add-on's story. These units are historically accurate and were actually developed for use in World War II.

After the Nazi Fifth Column spies stole the plans for the atom bomb from the secret laboratories in Lisbon, they developed a bold plan to have the Horten Ho-229 flying wing bomber release atom bombs over American soil!

The Horten Ho-229 (aka Ho IX) was actually built near the end of World War II. The Horten brothers based it on a flying wing design that removes any "unneeded" surfaces and, in theory at least, leads to the lowest possible drag. Jets and the stealth bomber are still built today based on their design.

The Ho-229 was the only aircraft that met the specification of the Government Air Ministry (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) request for design proposals for a bomber that was capable of carrying a 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) load over 1,000 km (620 mi) at 1,000 km/h (620 mph). In theory, the bomber would even have had enough fuel to return to Germany after releasing the bomb.

Putting the United States in lethal danger…

The Horten Ho-229 isn't the only aircraft to play a decisive role in "Rush for the Bomb". The following special units are being introduced for the first time in the add-on:

Aero Sledge NKL-26
Designed to overcome the difficulties of fighting in harsh winter conditions, this highly mobile sledge used speed and surprise to bring the battle to the enemy in quick, successive strikes. Its ability to travel over both ice and water (thanks to flotation devices) made it an important tool in an otherwise hostile environment. Designed in 1941, this vehicle saw action mainly on the lakes of Karelia.

Messerschmitt Bf-109
The backbone of the German Luftwaffe, the Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighter enjoyed superiority over enemy aircraft from as early as 1935. It saw action in every theater of war and on all fronts. As Allied fighter technology improved, the Bf-109 gradually was surpassed and outmaneuvered in the skies over Europe. Nevertheless, it fought to the bitter end of World War II.

Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
The terror of the German Luftwaffe, the Sturzkampfflugzeug (Dive Bomber) inspired fear in those who found themselves under its falling bombs. Effective against land and sea targets, its only vulnerability was its slow speed and lack of maneuverability making it an easy target for enemy aircraft. The need for protection against enemy aircraft first became apparent in the Battle of Britain where the Stuka's effectiveness was tempered by its dependence on German air superiority.

M4 Sherman Calliope
The introduction of a rocket launching device on top of the M4 Sherman gave it significantly more firepower on the field of battle. The two incarnations of the rocket launching tank included the shorter ranged T40 Whizbang and the longer ranged T34 Calliope. These hybrid tanks saw action in Northwestern Europe and with the 752nd Tank Battalion in Italy. Most notably just prior to the final Po Valley push through enemy lines.

...Top secret Manhattan Project research data stolen by Nazi Germany's Fifth Column...
...United States is in lethal danger due to atom bombs...
...The race for information between the Allies and the Axis powers begins...

The story: During the Second World War, the Fifth Column, a secretive division of Nazi spies, managed to infiltrate the laboratories of the US Manhattan Project and stole top secret research data which, in theory, would allow the Third Reich to produce an atomic bomb.
"Rush for the Bomb" presents this story from two different perspectives: while playing on the side of the Allies you will need to protect vital information, and while playing for the Axis powers you must make it possible for them to steal the information. It's up to you whether or not the documents complete their journey from Lisbon to Berlin via neutral Spain.

The features: The add-on consists of two campaigns for the Germans and Allies with 12 missions, which take place in previously unseen venues such as Norway, the Iberian peninsula, and the Balearic Islands. You experience the Race for the Bomb in the role of various heroes, who not only have access to additional officers with numerous skills, but also new, spectacular units. More details will be made released to the public later.

The new tech level for RfB

Deep Silver and Stormregion confirm the new 3D technology standard for their upcoming RTS game Rush for Berlin .

"We have been improving the technology significantly over the past months, e.g. the latest version of the proven Gepard engine fully supports Pixel Shader 3.0 now. The 3D engine delivers amazing pictures and creates a cinematic feeling. Moreover, our team for story writing and cutscenes previously worked in the TV and film industry. This guarantees a great plot and mission development. Our mission design and the Gepard technology have been highly rewarded in the past with our releases of Codename: Panzers. We are sure to surpass that quality in our upcoming strategy hit Rush for Berlin in May 2006," says Tamás Szerémy (Development Director, Stormregion) more >>

Vodka, propaganda and last reserves

Deep Silver proudly unveils the officers, their skills and their path to victory in the upcoming RTS title Rush for Berlin.

Similar to heroes found in RTS or RPG games, Rush for Berlin introduces the heroic officers with their special skill system. The officer unit is an important "add-on" to the player's army. Learning from their previously released games, Stormregion now want to reward the player for using officers as "hero characters" on the frontlines instead of putting them at the edge of the map in order to keep them safe and not lose them and the whole mission at the same time. Rush for Berlin will motivate the player to send officer units into the action-packed battles. The officers will introduce special skills, influencing the units nearby, and will level up when fighting successfully. This, in turn, enables the units to learn new special skills. The WWII RTS game Rush for Berlin introduces a skill system for the officers which is quite easy to use and understand while providing the gameplay with more depth. more>>
